This week, we will be discussing the achievements in "The Writer" DLC of Alan Wake. This guide will cover the 8 achievements in this DLC, while the rest can be found in our related guides. You'll most likely have to do two playthroughs to get all of the achievements, but it is possible to do it in one.

No Punctuation

Now just like with the main game and the first DLC, you'll need two playthroughs to get all of the achievements in this episode. Well, probably.

Technically you could do it all in one run, but it'll be tough to get the "No Punctuation" achievement for completing the episode without reloading the game or restarting a checkpoint. This can be fairly tough, but honestly, I don't think it was as tough as the first DLC. You may be able to get this done on your first playthrough with all of the other achievements, but if not, just do a quick second playthrough to focus solely on this one.

The first area you may have some trouble with is during the tornado sequence. You'll need to make sure you time your jumps correctly and honestly take your time making sure you'll land them. Jumping onto moving objects and then jumping off of them while they're spinning can be very glitchy in this game.

The rotating wheel section shouldn't be too tough, just make sure you're dropping down in areas at the right time so that you don't fall to your death or slam into something that kills you.

On the approach to the lighthouse, you'll just need to make sure you shine your light on every "clear" word to allow the lighthouse to take out as many enemies as possible. You can get through this area pretty easily as long as you're using that as your ultimate weapon and bring out a flare as a last resort.

For the final boss encounter area, you could have some issues, but you'll want to bring as many flares as possible, and it'll make it fairly easy. Use flares to keep the birds off of you until you can kill them with each fight, and then you can generally just keep the actual enemies back with your flashlight and shoot them for a while. You have infinite ammo crates so just fill up between fights.

Ding!

Moving onto the rest of the achievements we have "Ding!" for completing the elevator ride. This is unmissable and story related. You just go through the game until you go through an elevator, and you'll get it.

Kill Your Darlings

"Kill Your Darlings" will be for defeating the final obstacle between you and your goal. This is also unmissable, and story related. You'll get it at the end of the DLC when you beat the final boss battle.

Whirlwind

Then we have "Whirlwind" for making your way past the tornado in under 60 seconds. This can be tough, but it just goes back to running through it quickly but being careful with the jumps. I'll have my run through of the area playing here so you can see the way I did it and go off of that.

Heartbreaker

Next up we have "Heartbreaker" for having some poison poured in your ear. This will be where you go into a scene where you have Dr Hartman talking to Alan. You'll want to sit through the conversation and then play the tape when prompted. Once the rest of that scene is over, you'll have the lights turn on and can leave the room for the achievement. Just make sure you don't leave too early.

Creative Space

"Creative Space" will be for discovering the secret area. Eventually you'll come up to a plane where you have to walk across that and drop down and then go to the left checking the cliff wall in front of you for a cave. Go through that and follow the path down to the secret area where a few supplies and a giant typewriter are hiding.

Go Gentle into That Good Light

Then for "Go Gentle into That Good Light" is for making it through the approach to the lighthouse without firing a weapon. This will be after a cutscene where you gain the help of the lighthouse's light. You'll need to go up the path using your flashlight to hit all of the clear words. With the boulders cleared the lighthouse light will be able to clear the path of enemies. Just keep doing that and use a flare or two if you have to. It's really not too bad as long as you're running around dodging and using the lighthouse to your advantage.

Iron Will

Next up will be "Iron Will" for surviving the final encounter without being seriously hurt. This will be at the big boss battle at the end of the episode but comes down to really just one thing. You need to have flares. Ideally 10 or more. This will help you keep birds off of you and allow you to kill the birds before focusing down the main enemies. And getting seriously hurt just means you can't get to the point where your health is so low that things go black and white.

Licensed Properties

The last achievement will of course be for the collectibles in this DLC. That'll be "Licensed Properties" for discovering 10 Night Springs video games. You'll want to pull this portion of the video up and go through it collectible by collectible to make sure you get them all.

Video Game 1/10

Starting with video game 1 you'll go into a hedge maze and a statue will be holding a shotgun for you. Pick that up and then go down the left path until you reach a dead end where you'll find this game.

Video Game 2/10

Then as you go forward, we can get game 2 from in the lodge. You'll go in there after a big fight where you use fireworks to weaken enemies, and then furniture will float around. On the mantle of the fireplace is where you can pick this game up.

Video Game 3/10

Once you can leave the lodge to speak with your large light friend you can get game 3 by going down the stairs straight in front of you and around the left. This game will be sitting here.

Video Game 4/10

You'll go forward and then right before the tornado section of the episode you can get game 4 at the rotating house. You'll want to jump on the porch, some audio will start, and then you'll want to jump back off onto the ground you just came from. Once it rotates to the point where you can see the overhang of the roof you'll want to let it get up to where you can jump on it without falling off. It'll need to be tilted back at least a little bit. Then just prepare to jump onto the roof as it continues to rotate. Careful not to jump too soon or you'll slide right off, but the video game will be there attached to the roof.

Video Game 5/10

Then once you go through the gas station you can get game 5 by going out of the building, off to the right, and take a right down the road. As you get close to the end you'll head over to the left and find the bed frame where this game will be sitting.

Video Game 6/10

Moving on to video game 6 you'll end up going onto a bridge with a large logging truck on the right side. Go around that on the outside edge and you'll find this game sitting next to the truck on the bridge.

Video Game 7/10

Once you leave that bridge, you'll be able to get video game 7. You'll walk along a tree trunk bridge and continue on until you get to a large truck turned over. Go around that and you'll find the game sitting on the ground.

Video Game 8/10

As you get up to the crashed plane section you can get video game 8. You'll activate the tremor word, hop on the plane, drop down, and head inside of it from the back. Inside of there you'll find the game sitting there.

Video Game 9/10

Then for video game 9 we'll go through the long path up to the lighthouse, but once you get to the safe haven light you don't want to go into the building just yet. You'll go around the left of the building and find a red chair where this game is sitting.

Video Game 10/10

Up next is the last video game, video game 10. You'll get up to the top of the lighthouse and be faced with the Diver's Isle sign. Instead of going that way you'll turn around and head up the hill and go all the way to where this game will be sitting on a stump. You'll be familiar with this spot as there was a thermos hidden here during the base game as well.
